AWAKENING TO NEW POSSIBILITIES

A Gospel Reflection on the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time - September 27, 2026

During one of our retreats, a young man shared with me how his life changed because of a simple but powerful decision. Known for his quick temper, he realized after a church service that his anger was hurting his relationships and stealing his peace. Instead of ignoring the problem, he took an action, by going to those he had wronged, apologizing, and seeking forgiveness. This single step of humility not only healed broken relationships but also inspired his neighbors to reflect on their own lives. This shows us that when we choose to act differently, God can use our change of heart to transform our homes and communities. What step of reconciliation or kindness can you take today?

Faith is not just about religious rituals; it is a practical way of living that transforms our daily choices. God invites each of us to a personal encounter that pushes us out of our comfort zones and into a life of deep purpose. This week, challenge yourself to recognize where fear or pride may be holding you back. Take a simple step of humility or compassion, help a neighbor, forgive someone, or listen to someone in need. Real faith is shown in these everyday actions. God's grace is always available to renew us, but we must be open and take those small, courageous steps. When we do, we become channels of His love and hope to those around us.

It is natural to want to protect ourselves, our reputation, comfort, and status. But real growth happens when we step beyond what is familiar. If you want to see change, start by letting go of habits or attitudes that do not reflect Christ’s love. Identify one thing this week that you can surrender to God, whether it’s resentment, envy, or a selfish habit. The words of St. Paul challenge us: “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature...” (Col 3:5). Every time you let go of something negative, you open space for God’s joy and peace to enter your life.

Growth in faith is a daily, practical journey. We are called not just to believe, but to act. Start by becoming aware of God’s invitation in your life. Maybe it is a nudge to forgive, to help someone in need, or to step up in your parish or workplace. Engage your heart in prayer, make a conscious decision, and then act on it. Remember, even small steps matter. Do not be discouraged if you stumble. What matters is getting up and moving forward. Each time you say ‘yes’ to God, you open yourself to new possibilities and blessings.

God never gives up on us. No matter our past mistakes, He constantly offers us new opportunities to change and grow. If you have struggled or failed, take heart, God’s love is always ready to welcome you back. Make it a point this week to do one thing differently: reach out to someone in need, offer forgiveness, or simply pray for a renewed heart. Remember, even small choices can lead to big changes. When we imitate Christ’s selfless love, we become instruments of grace and hope in our world.

Let us then turn to the Lord in prayer, asking for the grace to embrace true conversion and a change of heart. May the Spirit of God inspire in us humility, perseverance, and a readiness to respond joyfully to His call. As we journey together in faith, may we be strengthened to act with compassion, selflessness, and love, becoming living witnesses of Christ in our world. May God, who sees every step we take, bless our efforts, transform our hearts, and lead us closer to Him each day. Amen.
