Confession During Shelter in Place

In order to observe the Shelter in Place order from the County Health Department, we encourage our parishioners to do a Perfect Contrition instead of physically coming for individual confession with our priest.  Please read below the links from the Apostolic Penitentiary regarding this directives and also a video from  our Bishop.  Individual private confessions are however welcomed.  Please call parish office to make an appointment at

(408) 251-7055.

From the Apostolic
Penitentiary:

A Message from the Bishop

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The 2020 theme for the Annual Diocesan Appeal is, ‘Encountering Christ – Faith in Action.’  One of the constant themes of Pope Francis in his preaching and exhortations is our call to become ‘missionary disciples.’  That term has two distinct, but complementary, elements to it: following Christ as his disciples and being sent to witness to God’s love, truth, and beauty.  So, too, does our 2020 theme bear these two important elements: encountering Christ and putting faith into action.

We might ask, how should we do this?  The traditional triad helps us in accomplishing these goals of encountering Christ and putting our faith into action: Know Him, Love Him, Serve Him.  Through the assistance of the ADA, the diocese helps us to ‘Know Christ, Love Him, and Serve Him’ through the Office of Catechesis and Faith Formation; the Office of Family Life & Spirituality; the Office for Youth and Young Adults; the Institute for Lay Ministry; the Office of Liturgy, Prayer, and Sacraments; the Office of Vocations; and the Office of Life, Justice, and Peace, among others.  Thus, in the 2020 ADA theme we have an entire working plan for encountering Christ and putting our faith into action!

I invite you to be a part of helping others in the Diocese of San Jose to encounter Christ and to place their faith in action by participating in the ADA 2020.  Be assured of my daily prayers for you.  May we all build each other up in prayer and good works!

Yours in Christ,

Oscar Cantú
Bishop of San Jose

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

We currently have 7 adults in the RCIA process, on the path to becoming fully initiated in the Faith.

On March 1, the Catechumens (unbaptized) participated in the Rite of Election.  During this Rite, the Catechumens come before the Church (headed locally by the bishop) as an outward expression of the choice already made by God, to be called by name to the Faith.

The Catechumens are now referred to as the "Elect" and will complete their sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil.
